Job Summary:
This particular position is a temporary, part-time assignment with 3M's Technical Aide Program and is not benefit eligible. The Technical Aide Program is designed to support the 3M technical community. As a Technical Aide located in Maplewood, MN, you will be assisting the 3M technical staff in the performance of their Job Responsibilities. It is a great way to get relevant work experience that complements your education.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Post-processing models generated on rapid prototyping equipment by one of or a combination of the following methods: removing supports, washing, sanding, bead blasting, and/or painting.
- Working with RPC personnel to manage requests for part fabrication and work on special projects involving new equipment and capabilities.
- Manipulating 3D CAD models, file conversion, model creation.
- Pre-processing models to prepare for fabrication.
- Equipment maintenance and laboratory organization.
Location: Maplewood, MN
This position is PART-TIME and limited to working no more than 32 hours per week and 899 hours per service credit year.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Completed at least one semester of a post high school degree program from an accredited college or university OR 3 years of 3M experience as a technician in lieu of the above education requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current overall cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's level or higher degree program in mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, or mechanical design related discipline with an accredited university
- Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Pro/Engineer, NX, or Solidworks.
- Experience working with digital fabrication equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters.
- Experience with digital fabrication work flows: pre-processing, building, post-processing.
- Experience designing mechanical components.
- Flexible, energetic, dependable and a team player
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, proactive and accountable.
- Available to work a minimum of 8 hours weekly during the academic year and up to 32 hours per week during the summer months
