Description

3M is seeking a Control Systems Engineering Intern for Engineering's Process Information and Control Solutions (PI&CS) organization at the Maplewood, Minnesota headquarters. The target start date for this position is May/June 2014.

Job Summary:

An intern (typical 10-12 week, full-time schedule assignment) position is a temporary assignment with 3M's Corporate Student Programs. Corporate Student Programs is designed to provide 3M with the opportunity to identify qualified candidates for regular employment, and to provide students with the opportunity to integrate their academic knowledge with work experience. As a Student Programs participant located in Maplewood, MN you will develop skills, and gain work experience in your field of study.

This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.

Roles and Responsibilities:

In this position you will be responsible for the specification, design, and integration of control systems used to manufacture 3M products. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;
- control systems architecture scope development and design
- control systems cost estimating and schedule development
- hardware purchasing
- engineering drawing development, including P&ID's
- PLC/HMI programming
- systems integration
- machine commissioning, start up, and check-out

Within this role you will develop an expertise in one or more of the following technologies;
- PLC/HMI programming in a variety of formats and platforms.
- motor drive systems
- motion control
- digital and analog systems
- control system networking
- sensing & measurement devices
Qualifications

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited University.
- Completed your sophomore or junior year of curriculum by date available to start internship.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 Scale.
- Prior internship/co-op experience with 3M or another manufacturing company.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Team player with the ability to contribute in a matrix environment.
Relocation: Relocation assistance is available for this position.

Location: This position will be located in Maplewood, MN and subsidized housing will be provided for those who qualify.
