Job Summary:
3M is seeking a Development Engineer to join our Infection Prevention Team with a focus on design, development, and first year post-launch product support for global healthcare products. Position will focus on electro-mechanical products in our patient warming business. This position will participate on research/development teams and support projects that positively impact our business and the lives of our customers.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Design, develop and test analog, digital, and microprocessor based electro-mechanical medical devices.
- Develop component specifications, product specifications, and associated test methods.
- Product testing to verify and validate design of products using lab equipment.
- Build, evaluate, and modify product prototypes.
- Document and resolve issues identified in prototypes and production systems.
- Prepare test reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Participate in product change management activities – ECO’s.
- Interact with vendors supporting development and production.
- Support regulatory submissions.
- Demonstrate/document/maintain product regulatory, ISO, and industry standards compliance.
- Gather customer input on design changes and usability.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing project related tasks as needed.
We are looking for someone that is:
- Passionate, self motivated, inquisitive, imaginative, and detail oriented.
- Able to thrive within a multi-functional product team (Product Development, Tech Service, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, Manufacturing, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on technical writing.
- Able to work under only general direction while independently determining the approach to problems and solutions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Minimum of two (2) years engineering experience
- Electronics design experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of two (2) years of industry experience, medical device preferred.
- Previous product development experience within a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- Able to coordinate multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly.
- Working knowledge of schematic design tools such as Altium Designer.
- Knowledge of radio frequency circuit and antenna design is a plus.
- Ability to generate, review, and understand formal engineering drawings and documents required for the fabrication and assembly of printed circuit boards, flex circuits and hybrids.
- Experience with object-oriented programming languages and design is a plus.
- Experience with LabVIEW is a plus.
