3M is seeking a Technical Service Technologist/Engineer (Digital Imaging/Graphic Manufacturing Focus) for the Safety and Graphics Business Commercial Solutions Division (CSD) located in Maplewood, Minnesota. Be part of what’s next!
Job Summary: The person hired for the position of Technical Service Technologist/Engineer will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the digital imaging workflow, new product development programs and warranties.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Working with CSD engineers and customers to support digital imaging process workflows
- Troubleshooting repairs and maintenance on digital printers
- Product development involving validation of product performance at customer sites (field tests)
- Creating training and customer usage literature for digital imaging films, inks, and warranties
- Training CSD customers by phone and onsite to ensure compliance with recommended processing, installation and inspection practices to qualify for warranty consideration
- Investigating warranty and other failure claims and advise on causation to the CSD laboratory management team
- Collaborating with other technical support personnel to find solutions to problems and share experiences
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- Two Year Technical or Associates Degree from an accredited university
- Minimum five (5 ) years experience in a commercial wide format graphics manufacturing environment
- Minimum one (1) year experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university
- 3M experience
- Minimum five (5) years hands-on experience in wide format graphics manufacturing using digital printers
- Successful track record of technical presentation experience with internal and external clients
- Previous experience presenting to groups of all sizes
- Ability to work well with internal and external clients of varying technical ability/skill sets
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Print/production management experience in a commercial print facility
- Familiar with the advanced aspects of multiple printer platforms (UV, Latex, Solvent, Eco-Solvent)
- Knowledge of material characteristics and product uses
- Large format graphic design experience
- Operation and understanding of laminators
- Possess excellent mechanical/diagnostic skills
- Expertise regarding color management, profiling, RIPs, printer linearization, ink systems, etc.
- Digital press troubleshooting experience
- Experience with multiple printer manufacturers and platforms (UV, Latex, Solvent, Eco-Solvent)
- Understanding of total graphic manufacturing workflows and logistics
- Experience in product selection of inks and films based on application and expected performance
Location: Maplewood, Minnesota
Travel: May include up to 25% domestic/international
