3M is seeking an entry level Control Systems Engineer for Engineering’s Process Information and Control Solutions (PI&CS) Organization at its Maplewood, Minnesota headquarters. Be part of what’s next.
Job Summary:
The person hired for this position, will be responsible for providing effective control system solutions for a wide variety of new or existing automated process equipment that is used to manufacture 3M products. Specific responsibilities include the specification, design, integration, and start up of control technologies. These control technologies include motion control, human machine interface, PID and PLC control, drives, sensors and measurement devices.

Roles and Responsibilities:
In this position, the candidate will be responsible for the specification, design, and integration of control systems used to manufacture 3M products. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;
- Control systems architecture scope development and design
- Control systems cost estimating and schedule development
- Hardware purchasing and control panel build
- Engineering drawing development, including P&ID’s,
- PLC and HMI programming
- Systems integration
- Machine commissioning, start up, and check-out
Within this role, the candidate will develop an expertise in one or more of the following technologies;
- PLC/HMI programming in a variety of formats and platforms.
- Motor drive systems
- Motion control
- Digital and analog systems
- Control system networking
- Sensing & measurement devices
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently possess or are in the last year of pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 Scale.
- Prior internship / co-op experience involving a control systems engineering process or technology
- Prior internship / co-op with 3M or another manufacturing company
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Team player with the ability to contribute in a matrix environment
- Project management experience
