3M is seeking a Plant Engineering Engineer for the Electronics Solutions Division-Plant Engineering department located in Columbia, MO. Ready to be part of what’s next?
Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Plant Engineering (PE) Engineer will be a key resource for the 3M Columbia MO manufacturing plant. This individual will report directly to the PE Manager and perform key functions related to existing equipment troubleshooting, upgrade of equipment and new equipment component selection and implementation; providing concepts and design improvements of process equipment for use in the manufacture of 3M products. This position will be a member of the site’s Plant Engineering Organization and be a key resource for designing, improving, and applying a variety control technologies.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- This job requires the ability to design and apply a variety of control technologies, including AC/DC motion control, digital and analog systems, motor drives, interactive operator/machine interface, data acquisition, Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controls, and systems integration. Work includes an emphasis on programming in a wide variety of formats specific to individual supplier’s control hardware.
- With new equipment coming into the plant regularly, this employee may be called on to help qualify machines or components of the machines.
- Use leadership, TPM and Lean Six Sigma project management skills to drive opportunities for improved equipment reliability and integrity.
- Establish and insure Maintenance Conscious Engineering (MCE) principles are applied and followed including participating in design reviews and machine checkouts.
- Provide direction for site renewal and Capital Planning in an effort to maintain and improve our operations.
- Summarize, communicate, and justify opportunities to business partners
- Enhances technical knowledge through courses, seminars and/or classes and act as the site’s subject matter expert for assigned technologies.
- Lead cross functional teams including maintenance resources and production engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in an Engineering, Science, or Technology discipline from an accredited university and/or a minimum of five (5) years of experience troubleshooting and programming PLC’s in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Preferred expertise in high level PLC program development and troubleshooting is desired.
- Preferred expertise in robotics controls, implementation and troubleshooting is desired.
- Preferred expertise in vision systems programming, program development and troubleshooting is desired.
- Preferred expertise in Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) knowledge, implementation and troubleshooting is desired. This should include Machine Data gathering, formatting, transferring and database recognition.
- Good problem solving skills, analytical, ability to demonstrate ownership
- Excellent organization skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments
- Good work habits - timely, thorough, and dependable
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self starter with the ability to work on a wide range of technical challenges
Location: Columbia, MO
Travel: May include up to 10% travel
