Job Summary:
3M is seeking a Product Engineer to join our Infection Prevention Team with a focus on post-launch product support for global healthcare products. Position will focus on electronic products in our sterilization assurance and patient warming businesses. This position will lead and support projects that positively impact product service, performance and quality.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain product design intent as components, processes, methods, and specifications change.
- Design, develop and test analog, digital, and microprocessor based medical devices.
- Document and resolve issues identified in prototypes and production systems.
- Lead most change management activities.
- Develop component specifications, product specifications, and associated test methods.
- Lead product testing to verify and validate design of products.
- Lead quality investigations and supply projects.
- Support regulatory submissions.
- Demonstrate/document/maintain product regulatory, ISO, and industry standards compliance.
- Gather customer input on design changes and usability.
- Interact with vendors supporting development and production.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Minimum 1+ year of engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 1+ year combined medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry experience
- Previous product, process or development experience within in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
- Passionate, self motivated, inquisitive, imaginative and detail oriented
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to thrive within a multi-functional product team (Product Development, Tech Service, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, Manufacturing, etc.)
- Strong technical writing experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly
- Ability to work under only general direction, while independently determining the approach to problems and solutions
- Electronics design, manufacturing and packaging experience
- Ability to independently determine and develop original technical approaches
- Working knowledge of schematic design concepts and tools such as Altium Designer
- Ability to generate, review, and understand formal engineering drawings and documents required for the fabrication and assembly of printed circuit boards, flex circuits and hybrids
- Knowledge of radio frequency circuit and antenna design
