3M Touch Systems is seeking a Firmware Engineer for the Methuen, MA location.
Job Summary: The person hired for the position of Firmware Engineer will primarily be responsible for developing embedded real-time firmware in C and assembly language for touchscreen controllers.
Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- As part of a cross-functional project team, take a leading role in developing projected capacitive touch screen electronics and firmware, and in developing new technologies and new ground-up designs.
- Work with other members of the Touch and Display Materials Lab, 3M Touch Systems, PCTouch, other parts of 3M, and contractors to ensure successful product development from concept through to release for manufacturing.
- Ensure that new products meet all appropriate regulatory and industry standards, including 3M’s own quality specifications.
- Stay in touch with the implications of new components, technologies and platforms.
- Diligently record activities, decisions and experimental results.
Location: The person hired for the position of Firmware Engineer will be located in Methuen, MA and relocation assistance is available for this position. This position may include up to 10% travel.
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, physics and/or mathematics from an accredited university
- Minimum 3 years of firmware engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university
- Real-time embedded firmware development and debugging using ICE and JTAG
- Real-time digital signal processing techniques
- C and possibly assembly level programming
- Analog electronics and measurement of capacitance
- A wide variety of popular embedded processors and DSPs such as ARM, 8051, Analog Devices Blackfin
- Source control software
- Knowledge and Understanding of USB protocol
- Knowledge and understanding of HID (digitizer, multi-touch, and mouse) preferred
- Proven track record of successful project completion
- Ability to use common lab test equipment such as DMM’s and oscilloscopes
- Ability to write utility software as needed for diagnostics purposes
- Ability to write test procedures for firmware verification
- Ability to read schematics
- Ability to analyze data using Matlab or Excel
- Labview and instrumentation programming experience very useful
- Familiarity with protocol analyzers and other tools for debugging communications interfaces a plus
