Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Grinder Hand will be responsible for setting up and operating a wide variety of type, model and size of grinding machines such as Landis ID/OD grinders, Parker Majestic, Blanchard, surface and optical grinders. Parts are to be ground to the required tolerances and specifications.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Knows and applies the operating principles, purpose, proper application and design limitations of machine tools.

Reads and works to the indicated accuracy, specifications and tolerances as detailed on engineering drawings, product construction prints, blueprints, sketches, equipment manuals and vendor diagrams. Works with both U.S. customary and SI (metric) systems of measurement.

Sets up, operates and reads precision testing and measuring instruments to the instrument manufacturer’s specification of accuracy. Precision testing and measuring instruments include devices such as calipers, dial indicators, levels, micrometers, profilometers, rules, scales, sine bars, squares, vernier calipers, ring gages, hole gauges and thread gages.

Performs mathematical calculations including trigonometry to determine dimensions, locations, angles, sizes, shapes and speeds and feeds.

Works from both written and verbal instructions.

Uses computer literacy to efficiently use the electronic tools and software available.

Uses grinder tool accessories such as angle plates, arbors, boring heads, centers, chucks, clamps, digital readouts, dividing heads, hold-downs, parallels, rotary tables, steady rests, tail stocks, V-bocks, vise, and similar machine tool accessories.

Mounts, adjusts, sets clearance aligns, trams, fits and lubricates mechanical devices such as arbors, arbor plates, clutches, brakes, bearings, gear drives, linkages, rolls and shafts to operate to the required tolerances and specifications.

Provides and maintains the quality and quantity of personal tools for use on the job as required by the 3M.
- Performs other duties as required
This position may require:
- Overtime
- Weekend work
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED
- One year of machining experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience interpreting blueprints or customer prints
- Experience working with CNC machining equipment
- Experience troubleshooting and problem solving in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with CAD software programs
- Experience working with grinding machining equipment
- Experience working with Landis ID/OD grinders, Parker Majestic, Blanchard surface grinders and/or Optical Grinders
- Ability to maintain +/- .0005" tolerances
- Able to communicate effectively
